Interest in Mathematics, extraordinary logic, ability to think differently, determined efforts to arrive at a solution …. are the key qualities to appear for Maths Olympiad. Students who wish to opt Mathematics as career should tend towards it from initial stages and for them Olympiad is the gateway. National Board Of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) of Dept.of Atomic Energy conducts Mathematics Olympiad with guidance of HBCSE. The winners if Indian Maths Olympiad are sent to International Maths Olympiad. There are stages in Maths Olympiad.

Stage-1: Regional Maths Olympiad (RMO)
Our country is divided into 23 regions in connection with Maths Olympiad and every region has a co-ordinator.

Eligibility:
Junior or Senior Intermediate students are eligible to write this exam. Prodigal students also can appear for this exam with the permission of Regional coordinator.30 candidates are selected from each region. In Andhra Pradesh, we have two regions(Andhra, Telangana) and so 60 candidates will get qualified from A.P. to stage-2 and 690 candidates will get qualified all over the country.

Question Paper:
The duration of the exam is 3 hrs. and it contains 6 or 7 questions. Every question requires in depth knowledge and great analytical skills to be solved. Every thing, like how an answer began and whether the student arrived at the right solution etc., are observed. Including the method to solve the question each and every step counts. Though one could not get the right solution, marks will be awarded for attempt.

Stage – 2 : Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO)
Qualified students in stage-1 are eligible for Stage-2. A national level test is conducted for them. The duration of the exam is 4 hrs. 30 meritorious students are selected in this level and they are qualified for stage – 3.

Stage – 3 : International Maths Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC)
In this stage six(6) talented students are selected and they are sent for next level.

Stage – 4 : Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT) for IMO
Training will be provided to six qualified candidates of stage-3 for final level, the International Maths Olympiad(IMO).

Stage – 5 : International Maths Olympiad (IMO)
Stage-4 qualified students of every country are the participants of this level. This exam is conducted in every July. Each time one of the member countries hosts the event. There will be two (2) papers in this level and each paper duration is 41/2 hrs.

India has been participating in the IMO since 1989. The Ministry of HRD pays all the expenses of the qualified students for IMO on behalf of India. Every year one of the member countries hosts the event.

Syllabus:
Intermediate level Integers, Geometry, Quadratic Equations & Expressions, Linear Equations, Permutations & Combinations, Algebra, Number Theory. The level of difficulty increases with the increase of stage.

Can get admission in B.Sc.(Hons.) Maths, Chennai Mathematical Institute.
Can attend interviews conduted by Indian Statistical Institute for B.Stat., B.Math courses without appearing for entrance exam.

International Physics Olympiad is conducted in every June/July months. Different nations take the lead role every year. It has been conducted for the past 37 years and India has been participating in it since 1998.There are five stages in this exam and the questions will be in International Level.

Stage-1: National Standard Examination In Physics (NSEP)
This exam is conducted by Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT)

Eligibility:
High school to Senior Intermediate students are eligible. Students who finished Intermediate are not eligible.

Syllabus: CBSE 11th, 12th std. Physics.

Question Paper:
The questions are based on testing proficiency rather than memory. The question paper contains Part-A& Part-B. Part-A will be for 180 marks and contains 50 multiple choice questions.40 questions carry 3 marks each and their options contain only one possible correct answer. The remaining questions carry 6 marks each and their options contain more than one possible answers. Marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
Part-B contains 5 or 6 short answer type questions. All the questions carry equal marks. This exam can also be written in regional language.

Selection:
The top 300 students of written test are selected for stage-2. These 300 students are awarded certificates by IAPT.

Stage – 2 : Indian National Physics Olympiad (INPO)
Homi Baba Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) conducts exams for the 300 qualified candidates of stage-1 in 15 centers all over the country and selects only 35 candidates for stage-3.

Stage – 3 : Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC)
Based on the marks of theory and practical five (5) candidates are selected for stage-4.

Stage – 4 : Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT) for IPHO
Training will be provided to the five qualified candidates of stage-3 for final level, the International Physics Olympiad (IPHO).

Stage – 5 : International Physics Olympiad (IPHO)
Five qualified candidates along with two teachers and one observer will attend the International Physics Olympiad.

International Chemistry Olympiad has been conducted since 1968. It has been set up with the motto of exposing talent in Chemistry. India has been participating in it since 1999.There are five stages in this exam and the questions will be in International Level.

Stage-1: National Standard Examination In Chemistry (NSEC) Eligibility:
High school to Senior Intermediate students are eligible to appear for the exam .

Question Paper:
It contains 80 multiple choice questions and each question carries 3 marks.marks will be deducted for wrong answers.

Selection:
The top 300 students of written test are selected for stage-2 on the basis of merit.

Stage – 2 : Indian National Chemistry Olympiad (INCHO)
Homi Baba Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) conducts exams for the 300 qualified candidates of stage-1 in 15 centers all over the country and selects only 35 candidates for stage-3.

Stage – 3 : Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC)
Based on the marks of theory and practical four (4) candidates are selected for stage-4.

Stage – 4 : Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT) for ICHO
Quality Training will be provided to the four qualified candidates of stage-3 for final level, the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO).

Stage – 5 : International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO)
Four qualified candidates along with two teachers and one observer will attend the International Chemistry Olympiad .

International Astronomy Olympiad has been set up for the students who have strong fundamentals in Physics and Maths. India has been participating in International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) along with International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astro Physics (IOAA) since 2007.There are five stages in this exam. IAO has two levels , Junior and Senior. Junior level students are eligible for IAO and Senior level students are eligible for IOAA.

Stage-1: National Standard Examination In Astronomy (NSEA)
It has two levels Junior, Senior.

Eligibility:
Students unto tenth class are eligible for Junior level and Intermediate students are eligible for Senior level.

Syllabus:
Tenth class standard Physics, Maths, Elementary Astronomy for Juniors, Intermediate standard Physics, Maths, Elementary Astronomy for Seniors.

Question Paper:
It's a subject focused question paper. There are no questions based on memory. All the questions are multiple choice type questions and they carry 150 marks. It has two sections.

Section-A1 :
It has 30 questions and each question has only one possible correct answer among the options. Each question carries 3 marks.

Section-A2 :
It has 10 questions and each question has more than one possible answers among the options given. The candidate needs to identify all the possible answers. Each question carries 6 marks and marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. Question paper is given in English.

Selection:
300 meritorious candidates are selected in each level for stage-2.

Stage – 2 : Indian National Astronomy Olympiad (INOA)
Homi Baba Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) conducts exams for the 300 qualified candidates of each level of stage-1 and selects only 20and 35 candidates in Junior and Senior levels respectively for stage-3.

Stage – 3 : Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC) in Astronomy
In this stage various talent exams are conducted for candidates.50%,30%,20% weightage is given to theory, data analysis, observation tests respectively. A merit list is prepared on the basis of weightage , 3 candidates in Junior level and 5 candidates in Senior level are selected.

Stage – 4 : Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT) for IAO, IOAA
Quality Training will be provided to the qualified candidates of stage-3 for final level, the IAO,IOAA.

Stage – 5 : International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO)
Four qualified candidates along with two leaders and one observer for each level will attend the International Astronomy Olympiad .

International Biology Olympiad was starred in 1990.India has been participating in it since 2000.There are five stages in this Olympiad .

Stage-1: National Standard Examination In Biology (NSEB)

Eligibility:
High school and Intermediate students are eligible to appear for the exam .

Stage – 5 : International Biology Olympiad (IBO)
Four qualified candidates along with two teachers and one observer will attend the International Biology Olympiad .

This exam has been set up for Secondary School Students .It has been set up giving equal weightage to all primary subjects in science like Physics, chemistry, Biology and Maths. There are five stages in this Olympiad .

Stage-1: National Standard Examination In Junior Science (NSEJS)

Eligibility: All high school students are eligible to appear for the exam .

Syllabus: 10th std. syllabus in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Question Paper:
It contains 40 multiple choice questions for 150 marks in two sections.

Section-A1 :
It has 30 questions and each question has only one possible correct answer among the options. Each question carries 3 marks.

Section-A2 :
It has 10 questions and each question has more than one possible answers among the options given. The candidate needs to identify all the possible answers. Each question carries 6 marks and marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. Question paper is given in English.

In this stage six (6) candidates are selected on the basis of merit for stage-4.

Stage – 4 : Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT) for IBO
Quality Training will be provided to the six qualified candidates of stage-3 for final level, the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO).

Stage – 5 : International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO)
Six qualified candidates along with three teachers will attend the International Junior Science Olympiad .

The Stage-3 training in all subjects…………
HBCSE imparts training in stage-3 of all the subjects for one month. They conduct practical and theory exams and also orientation classes in practical. They arrange lectures by reputed scientists in the respective subject/ department. Theory and practical classes will given 60%, 40% weightage each. The qualified candidates for stage-4 will be awarded books and cash of Rs.5000. They also give many prizes to meritorious candidates in theory and practical for various Olympiads.

The Stage-4 training in all subjects…………
The selected candidates in stage-3 will be given sophisticated training for ten days in theory and practical. They are imparted training by not only the experts of HBCSE but also experts from nationally renowned organizations.
